It’s true that lots of people believe that daily brushing and occasional flossing is enough to keep a smile healthy for a lifetime. At White Bluff Smiles we make it priority to educate patients on home dental care. BUT even with proper home hygiene, it is imperative that you also visit the dentist every six months for a routine exam and cleaning. Dr. Valerie Allen offers these and other general dentistry services. Your teeth may appear to be clean and healthy on the surface; however, Dr. Allen along with her hygienist, Laura, can detect many issues that aren’t evident to you. We will address any problems that are found, and administer the necessary treatments.
General Dentistry Services
The goal of general dentistry is to prevent any oral health problems from occurring, and if there are any problems arising, to treat them as early as possible. Regular dental hygiene appointments is the best way to avoid more serious issues down the road. During your appointment, Dr. Allen or one of our dedicated team members will administer:
A comprehensive examination – Dr. Allen will perform an in-depth evaluation of your teeth, gums, and entire mouth for any early signs of decay or gum disease. Should any problems be identified, she will present your treatment options.
Digital X-rays – We will take digital X-rays of your teeth, jaw, and mouth to get a more detailed look for any potential issues that cannot be seen upon first look. The digital X-rays may reveal cavities, decay in between teeth, impacted teeth, and many other potential problems. Many of these should be addressed immediately.
Professional teeth cleaning and polishing – A professional teeth cleaning is very important as we can clean hard-to-reach places where plaque and tarter tend to build. We will use specialized tools to clean the area below the gum line, and in between the teeth; and we will also polish and floss the teeth. A professional cleaning significantly reduces the risk of cavities, gum disease, and many other dental problems.
Sealants – Useful particularly for young patients, Dr. Allen may recommend dental sealants. A plastic material is used to coat the back teeth to fill in crevices and prevent decay from occurring.
Fluoride treatment – A gel-like substance consisting of useful minerals will be applied to the surface of the teeth to strengthen them and prevent decay.
